VIES is the official EU service to validate VAT numbers.

When it helps

  • A new EU customer
  • You apply 0% VAT (intra‑EU supply/services)
  • You want a quick sanity check before sending

If there’s a mismatch

  1. Recheck the country code and spacing.
  2. Ask for the legal company name as registered.
  3. Record what you checked and when.
